Bowls Scotland’s international stars are a force to be reckoned with on the global stage with consistent podium finishes at World Championships and Commonwealth Games, but for the sport in Scotland their success is just the tip of the iceberg. With one of the highest levels of club membership of any sport in Scotland, the heart of the sport is the huge participation across all age groups and abilities, with many bowling clubs embedded in the life of the local town.
Created in 2016, Try Bowls is Bowls Scotland’s national campaign aimed at getting new people into bowls, creating stronger links with local communities and increasing membership in clubs. From fun activities that introduce young players to the basics, through to the full game there’s something for everyone.

Access to equipment
We will supply you with all you need to take part, you can try different size, types and weights of bowls first before you commit to buying your own equipment.
Discounted membership
Once you complete the Try Bowls programme you will be offered full playing membership for just £50 for your first year, saving £135 off our usual full annual membership fee.
Try Bowls @ Ralston Bowling Club
We held our first Try Bowls events at the start of the 2023 outdoor season and had huge success in attracting a large number of new players from the local community, many of whom have now gone on to improve their game significantly and represent the club regularly in internal and external competitions as well as enjoying the social life that the bowls community promotes. There’s also now a good number of trophies at the club with the names of past Try Bowlers names engraved upon them.
Coaching
We have a number of Bowls Scotland qualified coaches within the club to provide free coaching to those wishing to “TRY BOWLS”

We can supply all equipment to allow you to give it a try before committing to membership
Discounted Membership
If after coaching you would like to join the club we will offer significantly discounted annual membership for your 1st year.
